Undersized or untreated pilings rot, snap, or lean under surge and wake. Light-gauge metal and standard fasteners corrode quickly in salt air. Bulkheads without proper tie-backs or deadmen start to bow and lean after repeated high-water events. And decorative fence systems placed near the water with no thought given to wind loads or soft, eroding soils go down in the first serious blow.

A bulkhead is more than a pretty wall. It is the first line of defense keeping your shoreline, yard, and structures from slipping away inch by inch. Building one for hurricane country means thinking about loads and water, not just materials.

Marine-grade materials. Treated pilings, structural wall components, and stainless or hot-dipped galvanized hardware sized for saltwater duty.

A pier and boathouse should work with the water, not against it. The structure needs enough strength and flexibility to ride out wave energy, wind uplift, and floating debris without coming apart at the connections.

Deep-set pilings. Driven into suitable strata, not just tamped into shallow mud, so they resist scour and undermining.

Framing and bracing. Cross-bracing, through-bolted connections, and proper hardware that tie the frame into the pilings as one unified system.

Hurricane-conscious roof and boathouse. Connectors and fasteners rated for uplift, plus a layout that respects boat lift loads and wind exposure.

Fence lines near bays, canals, and rivers see more than sun and rain. They take salt, wind, soft soils, and standing water after storms. Choosing the wrong material or setting posts shallow almost guarantees sagging or complete failure after a major blow.
